Heey everyone,
It's been a while, but it's been just such a busy couple of weeks. I am in Shrek the musical, and I have one rehearsal a week, which will increase the closer we get to our performances! I am the witch and I'm in 3 scenes and the curtain call! Beside the curtain call, I'm also in 2 songs! So that's not bad at all! I also met some new people there, so it's a lot of fun. We usually have rehearsals on mondays after school from 4pm to 6pm. So these are long days! But that's not it! Last week I tried out for the cross country team, because if I don't do any sports I'll probably won't be the same when I'm back in Belgium.. ;p Anyways I had to run 1 mile, which I did in a bit more than 6 min and I got in! On Tuesday I had my first practice and I ran about 2.5 miles. There are some people on the team, who are in my photography class. And I also met some new people, every one is so nice. After practice Jake drives me back home because he lives close to my neighbor hood. The track we ran on tuesday and today is really nice, but the one we did yesterday was mainly in the sun, so even though we didn't run as much I was so tired. The shades are much better ;) So we practice everyday except for fridays and in my case monday, since I am in the musical! On wednesday I went straight to church after cross country practice, yes in my sweat, but everyone who has an extracurricular activity does that. So we go have dinner around 5pm and then we do a game and a bible study! It's a lot of fun! Last wednesday though, we went to get some ice cream after school with Haley, whose birthday it was ( on 9/11 :o) and It was a lot of fun because she had to do these crazy things in public, which was hilarious! After midweek church we went to Barnes and Nobles (it's starbucks in a book shop!) where we had some coffee, although I had decaf. I actually want to sleep at night. It was her mother's treat, she is really sweet. The school day itself was just a little bit different than others. First block I had Mississippi studies and we had to stand up for a moment of silence, like we do for the pledge of allegiance on every monday. Ms. Rowland, the Mississippi studies teacher also showed us some pictures of the 9/11 memorial and the new World Trade Center tower in New York City. She visited it last year in the fall, so the tower wasn't completed yet, but it was very serious. Other than that it wasn't that extremely emotional (anymore), since it's been 12 years ago. That's about it! Talk to y'all soon again

Hey everyone!
In this post I'm going to tell you about how I spend my labor day weekend. In America you have a day off on the 2nd of septembre, because of Labor day. But I didn't go to school on friday either :p. So we could leave earlier, and spend more time at the beach. We left around 10am and drove on several routes to Mobile, Alabama. We had to drive through Alabama to get in Perdido Key, Florida. In Mobile we stopped to have lunch at a cool beach restaurant. I had a seafood soup and fried green tomatoes!(they fry everything in America! :D) After that we went to visit USS Alabama, a battleship that retired years ago and serviced mostly in the fifties in places like Pearl Harbor. It was pretty impressive and interesting to see how people lived on a ship like that for I don't know how many months. We've also seen battle aircrafts and a submarine, which was also interesting. After that we continued our journey to Perdido Key. We arrived around 6pm. After we got settled in and I stopped freaking out about the condo (It's huge and very beautiful), we ordered some food. A condo is a whole floor of a story building that serves as a 'little' house. We also walked on the beach, but walking turned into swimming with my clothes and making Jane Bradley and Beckam more confident with the ocean water (which worked!). Lacey and Brad told they had never seen Jane Bradley that confident! :D After a while also Lacey's parents arrived. They are the actual owners of the condo and are really sweet! I and Jane Bradley shared a room that had a beautiful view over the bay. 3 of the 4 walls were mainly windows, so we were surrounded by the beauty of the bay. Saturday morning we got up early and we went to the balcony that looks over the Gulf of Mexico. It was a very calm and clear morning, that we could see dolphins under water, even though we were on the 15th floor. Marguerite (Lacey's mom) made our breakfast, which consisted of bacon, egg and cookies. After breakfast we did what everyone does when they're at the beach! Swimming, sunbathing, making sandcastles,... For Lunch we had Taco's, while football was on tv :p. Football season just started and every saturday there are a lot of games all day long. For dinner we went to Mguires, an Irish pub. It's ceilings is filled with pasted 1 dollars! It's really funny, because the person who'll one day take all those layers of will be rich! Dinner was really good! As appetizer we had honey bread with butter and after that I got beef, cabbage, and carrots! Sunday morning we had pancakes (not crepes!). American pancakes are much more smaller but have a similar taste. After that we descended to the beach again. And before lunch I facetimed my family, which I've been longing for, since I didn't speak to them in Chicago. I loved catching up with them, because how much I love it here I'm still starting to miss them! For lunch we had something similar to 'Vol au vont', so a chicken dish ;). Around 4:30pm we had already left for dinner, because we went to a place, called 'LuLu's' that has a lot of more things to do except for a restaurant, that has a long wait! So we did some shopping at the LuLu's shop. I bought a pretty large shirt, but that's how a lot of people wear shirts here :p. Actually mine still had small as it's size. I also did a climbing attraction, and a hurricane attraction with Beckam and Jane Bradley, which is in a small cabinet where you stand in waiting for the air to blow harder and harder. Really funny! When we got a table we had tortilla's, with melted cheese and a lot of vegetables baked in it, as appetizer. This was really good! After we got back around 9pm and the kids went to bed, I, Brad and John went crabbing! We took a bucket, nets and flashlights! We caught 3 crabs, and I caught one of them! Monday morning we had a early morning swim, because we would leave early to get back home! I had an awesome weekend and once again I thank my host family for everything they've done for me! http://instagram.com/p/drXPovtCXs/ A picture with the view of Jane Bradley's and my room! http://instagram.com/p/ds81ZLtCaF/ A picture made at Mguire's while we were waiting for a table! You can see Jane Bradley and Lacey in it. http://instagram.com/p/dvZ3TvNCcv/ Here you can see Jane Bradley, Beckam and Marguerite at LuLu's! xoxo Suzanna PS: I'll try to put the non-instagram pictures on by tomorrow! ;) |
