Hey everyone!
This blog update will mainly be about football and when I'm talking about football I mean American football and not soccer. Last weekend I went to two football games! I'm pretty surprised that I'm becoming a football fan, because I'm finally understanding more about it. I don't like to watch it on tv as much as I like watching it from the stands. Why? Because to me and a lot of Americans it's more of a social thing. Friday evening I went to the Madison Central game. It was my fourth football game I went to. I went with Megan B, a friend from church. She came to my house first and we had supper together before we left for the game. Around 7pm, the time the game started we got at my high school. We met Emily and Mary Ellen who are some of my friends from the musical. We also hang out with some other people, so as you can read at football games and especially high school ones you end up hanging out behind the stands instead of watching the whole game. I actually enjoy watching the halftime more, because that's when the marching band and the dance team performs. They always perform really well. The marching band has a lot of students in it, who all wear this uniform. There are people who play on the drums, and then there are people who all dance with the flags at the same time. It's a big performance and it takes a lot of practice. After that Megan and I went to Walmart because I needed some black tights for a church dress and Walmart is the place to go if you need something for a good price, you can find almost everything. Saturday I went to watch a football game again, but this time it was on a complete different level. It wasn't a high school game but it was a college game. Claire took me and we went to see the Mississippi State vs. Alabama game in Starkville. Claire, her aunt and her mother are Mississippi State fans so that's why they took me there and converted me into a MS state fan. :D A lot of people in Mississippi are wether a MS State or a Ole Miss fan. MS State is in Starkville and Ole Miss is in Oxford and no not the Oxford in England ;). Both colleges have a football team, so if you are a MS State fan you pull for their football team. It's a very big deal, because you can tell wether somebody is a Ole Miss fan or a MS State fan from the shirts that have the names in capital letters written on it. Everybody wears those shirts a lot! It's almost like a kind of nationalism on school and football based level. So when we got in Starville we went to eat a (late) lunch at Ovy's, but I only ate a bowl of soup because I still wanted to eat something at tailgating. Tailgating is almost bigger than the football game itself. Tailgating happens in tents that are placed all around the stadium. People just bring whatever food to their tent and then people can eat it there before they go watch the football game or just stay there and watch the football game on tv. Because that's what some people actually do, they just put it under the tent and just go tailgating. Once again it's all a social thing! I saw some people from school and met some of Claire's aunts and cousins. We also went to the barnes and nobles bookstore, that's right next to the stadium and there I bought a MS State sweatshirt. Yes it's a bookstore but it has a whole section with MS state school spirit stuff. After the tailgating we went to the stadium to look for our seats, which were almost right in the middle, so we had a good view! Before the actual game started the marching band performed. After that our football players and the opposite team's football players entered the stadium. All the MS State fans, which were in the majority, were ringing the cowbells, because that's a typical MS State thing. Like 'Hotty toddy' a typical Ole miss thing is and 'Roll tide' a typical Alabama thing is. The MS State's team is named the 'Bulldogs' and Alabama's team is Crimson tide. After we sang the National Anthem the game started and I was confused in the beginning, because this was the first time I actually payed attention to what was happening, but Claire explained me while the game was in full speed. I started to get it and really enjoyed watching it and cheering with the cowbell. We lost but that was predictable because Alabama is one of the best college football teams. It's just so amazing how the band plays by every good defense our team pulls and how everyone just cheers by the smallest good thing our team does. We knew that we would lose but everyone was just so proud that we at least scored once and that they only scored 2 touchdowns. Halftime was also really cool! the marching band is so awesome and they played really good! They also had some soldiers from the army there, who they honored because they went to MS State. It was a really good first game! I'm so thankful to Claire and her family for taking me with them! Now thanksgiving is coming up next week, when we will get a week off from school! It will be my first thanksgiving ever and I'm excited! Hasta luego!

Hey blog readers!
I know that it has been a while but I've been really busy, so that means I've got some things to tell you! I've been really busy with Shrek The Musical, as y'all know I was casted as the witch in the school production and I've always had like one rehearsal a week. Well that has changed, the passed 3 weeks the amount of performances a week has increased a lot! That means I had to quit cross country. My last meet was on a saturday 2 weeks ago. It was a lot of fun, because it was just on our own tracks and it was only 2 miles! I ran it in like 14:40 minutes. Which I'm pretty pleased with because I had only been to one practice that week, because of Shrek. Grace (a girl who is in my theatre class) also photographed us to get a picture for the yearbook! Our team won again, of course it's a home race! So after that, I officially quit cross country, because we had rehearsals every day except for fridays. Everyone got more serious on stage, scripts were left home, orchestra rehearsed along with us. So adaptation was needed in the beginning! Especially the orchestra made it hard to hear the characters' lines. But as we got used to the new pattern, we started to settle in. And then this week we started dress rehearsals on monday. So that means that everyone had to dress up in their costumes and take their props on stage. We also did the whole performance in order, so the whole cast had to be present. This monday was a disaster, but no panic that's what dress rehearsals are for right? So tuesday was much better! And wednesday morning we were ready for our preview! It was during first period, that means everyone who wanted to see it could come if they payed. It was only a couple of scenes, since it's a preview. It was ok, not as good as our actual performances, but people say that preview's are never that good and this one was pretty good. Usually it's because we still need like one more dress rehearsal, which we had for the last time after school. Because thursday evening would be our opening night. Thursday was very tiring, because we had to perform in the morning during first and second block for elementary kids and then in the evening again. The kids loved it so much. After the curtain call we go out in the audience and people just congratulate us the whole time. All the kids wanted to touch our hands and give high fives! It was so cute and it made you feel like a star :D. There were kids telling me that they would be a witch for halloween! It was also so cute and funny to see all those kids all around donkey. Donkey is their favorite! Thursday evening performance was our first real performance and everyone was so nervous! But it was so good! It was the best one. In the morning the senior Fiona and Shrek performed and then in the evening the sophomore Fiona and Shrek performed, because these characters got double casted, so they switched. Also it was bad weather for trick or treating on halloween, so Lacey decided at the last moment to come and see me with Jane Bradley. They surprised me a bit. I'm really glad they came, because they loved it! After that I met them in the audience and I got flowers! :) After that we drove through chick fil a to get a sandwich, because it was such a long day and I was so hungry and chick fil a is just the best! I will miss it :P. Friday we had a morning performance again and it was for some more elementary kids, which included Jane Bradley! So she saw it for the second time! After school I went home and went trick or treating with the neighbors! I was a cop! It was my first American Halloween! It was fun and I got a lot of candy! At 7pm I returned back home, because the Halloween karaoke party at our house started at 7pm and I could invite a friend over. It was a lot of fun, because me and Megan B sang a lot and we got the party started! To bad she couldn't stay that long, because she had to take the ACT on saturday, that is a test that can get scholarships for college. But I also got to see Janie and Colby again and they were dressed up as 'what does the fox say?'. It was funny, because most of the people didn't get it. I only went to bed at like 12:30 and I woke at 7am! On a saturday?! My head hurt and my throat was feeling soar. And I had two(!) Shrek performances that day. Anyways time I had to leave I was well-fed, so I was feeling a bit better. Oliver picked me up at 12:45 and at 2:15pm the first show started! Lacey and Jane Bradley came to see me again, but this time also Brad and Beckam came! After it ended we went out in the audience and they congratulated me. After that they went to get me a subway sandwich, because I had to stay in the auditorium in between the two shows. So they offered to get me food. They got me the largest sandwich they had in Subway! I was so thankful for that, because I was hungry! Yes stress and performing make you really hungry ;). We couldn't eat backstage, so everyone had to eat outside, but it was such good weather and everyone was eating in the sunshine. At 6:30pm our second performance of the day started and that went also really good! We had a good audience, who laughed at almost everything! Overall the day was good and both of the shows were also filmed that day! :D After we got changed we went to waffle house! It's a place that's opened almost 24/7, and you can eat there anytime whether it's in the morning or at 10 pm in the evening! It was a lot fun, because it was with a large musical crowd, so we filled half of the place. By the way the waffles are completely different, they taste more like pancakes. Sunday morning I just went to church, then I facetimed my family and had lunched. After that I left at 12:45 again for our last performance ever! Haley, Claire, Caroline, Megan, William and Katie also came to see it, which was so sweet of them! It was so sad and emotional! But it was a very good closing and everybody did so well everyday! I'm so glad I auditioned, even though I wasn't sure about it, because I've never done a musical! But I'm so glad I did! I met so many new people and made good friends! I'm going to miss everything! The big group of people, the games backstage, the shushing to be quiet, the crew and the orchestra who worked so hard and always did the best they could. Being on stage was always a great feeling and it was one of my best experiences up till now! I'm so thankful towards my family at home, the best host family ever and everyone that I've met and has welcomed me so warmly. Amen! PS: I've some new pictures in the gallery! |
